Crashes When Applying AI-Powered Adaptive Profiles on iPad Pro M5 & iPhone 17 Air (iOS/iPadOS 27.0 Beta)

Issue Summary

  • Problem: Lightroom crashes immediately when applying AI adaptive profiles to images.
  • Affected Devices:
    • iPad Pro M5 (iPadOS 27.0 Beta)
    • iPhone 17 Air (iOS 27.0 Beta)
  • Non-Affected Devices:
    • iPad Pro M4 (2024, iPadOS 27.0 Beta)
    • iPad Mini 7 (2024, iPadOS 27.0 Beta)
    • Mac (M1, macOS 27.0 Beta)

Key Findings

  1. Other AI features (e.g., Super Resolution, Generative Fill) work flawlessly on all devices, including the affected ones.
  2. The issue only occurs with adaptive profiles, suggesting a specific incompatibility with the Neural Engine cores in M5/A19 chips (2025).
  3. All devices run Lightroom v11.4.0 (242) and the latest iOS/iPadOS 27.0 Beta.
  4. The problem does not occur on 2024 hardware (M4, A18) or macOS, even with the same OS version.

Additional Context

  • The synchronization issue mentioned in my previous support request has been resolved.
  • This crash only affects AI adaptive profiles, not other AI tools in Lightroom.

Using beta system software will do that (sometimes). Adobe does test this too, but the current versions are simply not supported on iOS27. See also

Of course, but in this case it is - according to Adobe -  the interaction between LR mobile 10.4.0 (242) and the Apple processors A19 and M5 released in 2025. Both elements not really Beta 🤓 Running on a M4 or A17 processor  LR mobile works flawlessly on the iPadOS 27.0 Beta…
