Deleted photos from LR but storage still full

I'm trying to free up some storage (20GB plan) so I deleted over 20,00 photos from my Lightroom catalog  - not just from Albums, but from the actual catalog. The 'All Photos' is now showing the correct number (less the 20,000), but the storage is still showing that it's over by the same amount. I've tried restarting Lr and have confirmed the changes by going to the online version of my Lr catalog, but still the storage is showing as over buy the same amount as prior to my deleting the images. Is there a way to refresh the storage, or clear the storage cache or something (without deleting all the images in there)?

    What do you sync with on the desktop? The cloud-based Lightroom Desktop or Lightroom Classic? I suspect the latter, and if so, the 20000 were likely smart previews (synced up from Classic) that don't count towards your quota, and the 20GB is being taken up by originals shot of your mobile devices. There are solutions but we need extra info before we can find the right course forward.
