Hello all,Been using Lightroom Classic 6.14 for about 8 years now. Also dipped my toes into basic ($10/mo) LR cloud account.Just upgraded camera to Sony A7riv. Large files, amazing resolution. But I'm having some difficulty importing into my dinosaur LR Classic 6.14.Am I being stupid? Is this a good time to fully embrace Adobe Cloud? And should I consider LR/LR Classic/PS for $20/month?Bottomline, I'm at the point in my career that I need my edit software to be optimal. Much appreciate any and all feedback or comments.Rob

Hello all,

Been using Lightroom Classic 6.14 for about 8 years now. Also dipped my toes into basic ($10/mo) LR cloud account.
Just upgraded camera to Sony A7riv. Large files, amazing resolution. But I'm having some difficulty importing into my dinosaur LR Classic 6.14.
Am I being stupid? Is this a good time to fully embrace Adobe Cloud? And should I consider LR/LR Classic/PS for $20/month?
Bottomline, I'm at the point in my career that I need my edit software to be optimal.

Thank you. Very useful. Ideally, I would like to continue using my LR Classic 6.14. Is it hopelessly obsolete? Is that why it won't upload anything shot from my A7r iv?

I wouldn't call it hopelessly obsolete. It will still support the cameras it was designed to support. Some of the features I believe have stopped working. But you will find so many new features that make either Lightroom or Lightroom Classic so much more useful that you will find the upgrade well worth the investment. The raw images from your camera are not supported in Lightroom 6.14. However, if you decide to upgrade you will find they are fully supported now.

Both Classic and Cloudy will work for you but if you're used to 6.14, you might want to just get Classic as the interface will be much more familiar and you're not depedent on cloud storage. The advantage is also that you get Photoshop with that too whereas the standard cloudy subscription doesn't include Photoshop. The advantage of cloudy is the fact that it stores everything in the cloud (it has a local browser too but that doesn't actually catalog images) and that images look the same everywhere but it misses many features that you might be used to like virtual copies, hierarchical keywords, ability to print, publish collections, ability to simultaneously edit and sync edits easily, etc. If those don't really matter to you, Cloudy (extremely confusingly just called Lightroom on Adobe's website) might be the way to go.

There is actually another option that is sort of hidden. Lightroom Classic, Lightroom and Photoshop for $9.99/month. You only get 20 GB of cloud storage, but if you only link smart previews that doesn't matter because the smart previews don't use up any of that space. If you're interested, here is the link:
