Direct import problem / LR iPadOS

Good morning,

I'm trying to import live from my ricoh GRiii to lighrtoom mobile (ipadOS), via a usb-c cable.
LR detects the camera for me, and I see the images to import appear. After selecting the ones I want to import, the window appears: "Loading content from the device, the copy will continue once the loading is complete"...then the status bar remains frozen at 28% (which corresponds to the number of images I want to import). There I can reach, but nothing happens, or else cancel.

Have you had this kind of problem?

Thank you for your precious help 🙂

Mike

IPoS OS 16.1.1
Lightroom ipad V 8.3.2
Ricoh Griii 1.7.1
Apple iPad USB C cable (I tried with other cables, same effect)

Hi,

I had the same issue, but only with Ricoh GR and no other camera.

Try to change "app-settings/import/RAW Settings" to Adobe instead of Camera-Settings.

Looks like LR fails reading cam profile.

You really do not want to use the iPad USB-c cable. It can only transfer data at a very slow rate! You need to get a USB-c cable that is rated for data transfer at high speed. Unfortunately many USB-c cables are sold for power only and with only USB2 speeds available so it is not unlikely your USB-c cables are all of this low speed quality. Annoyingly there is very little standards control with these cables so make sure to read the reviews from other buyers when you consider a cable on amazon or such. The included Apple cable will for sure not work well.

Hello Jao,

Thank you for your prompt response.
I tested with all the usb-c cables I have at home.
Official ones by apple. samsung (t5, t7)... same result

So I went to buy a Belkin cable, certified USB-C type 4, the fastest standard, 40Gb/s.
The problem remains the same.

I don't think it's cable related.

The investigation continues...

Good to exclude that! Are you sure you have enough free space on your iPad to import the files? They are first imported locally before they are uploaded to the cloud after which they finally might get offloaded. You need probably about 1.5 times the space just the files themselves take for previews and such free on the iPad.
