Edit in Photoshop: Sending a file back to Photoshop for a second edit?

Just starting to use Lr for some of my work, with the bulk remaining back in LrC. I want to work with photos using a combination of Lr and Ps so am using the 'Edit in Photoshop' command. Once edited, saved and close it shows up fine in a stack in Lr. If I then decide to edit further is the only way to choose 'Edit in Photoshop' on the already edited version and then make further changes? This works but then creates a third version back in Lr once saved and closed.

Ideally, I'd like to find a way to open the edited file and make minor changes without creating a new 'version' back in Lightroom. Is that possible?

Yep, that's how it is with Lightroom desktop. Just delete the first copy once you have created the second one.
