Question

Enabling generative expand also enables a ridiculously poorly implemented and impossible to disable (by any intuitive means) snapping behavior..

Try to move the crop a little bit? SNAP

Try to drag one edge a little bit? SNAP

Snaps to edges, snaps to aspect ratios, snaps to center. How the hell can I make fine adjustments to the crop without this? Who thought this was a good idea. Who UX tested this???

Furthermore, considering the whole point of generative expand is for when you need a little more room in one direction or another, it's rather ridiculous from a UX perspective that the option to use it is greyed out unless you expand the canvas by some set minimum amount (which is actually quite a bit). Anything less than that and you're not allowed to generative expand. Who thought that was a good idea?

Hey, @Generous_view0D45. Thanks for bringing this up. This is an intended design change that became effective with Lightroom v9.5.

It is consistent with the behavior we have in Adobe Camera Raw, where Generative Expand was introduced before Lightroom.

You can try holding the ALT/OPT key to temporarily disable the Snapping behavior, and it should not stutter.

    Thanks!

When I said by any intuitive means, I really did mean that.

Insufferable snapping once gen expand is enabled. Notice how choppy any attempts at fine adjustments get after enabling gen expand.

Generative expand disabling itself if you don't generate "enough". Notice the lag on the button updating itself to a disabled state too, even though it's disabled on the backend and clicking it does nothing.
