Export of photos with metadata only works for some photos

Hi,
I need to export 5200 photos with their metadata from Lightroom CC (Not classic) on a Windows 11 computer.
I've tried this twice - each time, it sucessfully exports 2,781 photos of the 5,200 photos.

The dialog box says 'The file could not be found'.

I don't unerstand how you can have this error in Lightroom 6.2 (not Lightroom Classic).
The 5,200 photos are in Adobe online storage.

If I select one of the photos that was not exported, I can open it (so it must exist in the Adobe online storage). I have also tried to export a singel photo that was not exported, and it is then exported successfully.

Am I doing something wrong?
Is this a bug?
Any suggestions?

The reason I need to export the photos is to generate a report on the metadata. This metadata is needed for analysis of the photos for my wife's PhD.
I need a list of the photos, along with the metadata tags - idealy in Excel or CSV format.
I could not find a method to do this using the Lightroom (Not Classic).

Hello Anshul,

thanks for your reply.

I was able to solve this issue with help from Adobe support.

I first deleted the local cache of files.
I then made sure that “Store a copy of all originals locally” was selected.
I waited for the local copy of the files to sync (this took a while even with a 1 GBit internet connection), and I then repeated the export without any issues
You had correctly identified the issue - Adobe Lightroom needed local copies of the files to export.
This is however a bit crazy....Lightroom needs a local copy of the Cloud based files to export these files from the Cloud.

Yet another reason not to recommend Adobe Lightroom (not Lightroom Classic).
No export of Metadata is really poor -especially as all the add ons for Lightroom Classic will not work with this product.
I recommnded it to my wife for her PhD, but if she started again I certainly wouldn't recommend this product.

Hi @michaelm42078609,

Thanks for the details. Since single photo export works but batch export stops partway, this points to an unexpected behavior in that version. A couple of things to try in the meantime:
 • Update to Lightroom v8.5.1 from the CC Desktop app.
 • In Preferences > Local Storage, enable “Store a copy of all originals locally” to ensure Lightroom isn’t relying on cloud-only files during export.

At this time, Lightroom CC does not provide a built-in way to generate a full metadata report in CSV/Excel.

For reference, here’s a related community discussion on exporting metadata to Excel:

Please also confirm if you see the same behavior after updating to the latest Lightroom version 8.5.1.

Best,
