Question

Exporting from Mobile/Smart Preview

So my cloud storage type is listed as Smart Preview in my Lightroom Mobile on my iPhone. Because of this every time I try to export an image to my Camera Roll on my iPhone the exported images are rather small (around 2.8mb from a 109mb Tif file). My export setting are Jpg, Largest available, 100% image quality. I'm fairly certain the small image size is because it is exporting from the Smart Preview file instead of the original file stored on my connected NAS drive. How can I get larger export files?

Assuming that you are using Lightroom Classic and syncing Collections to the Cloud, then yes, this (as you may know) only syncs Smart Previews.

One option, if you have it installed, is to open the Cloud Based Lightroom Desktop and drop any full resolution files required in the Cloud, in there. This will overwrite the lower res Smart Previews in the Cloud, whilst retaining edits.

This will use up your Cloud quota though, which Smart Previews do not.

Ya, your assumption is correct! I not so long ago transitioned from Lightroom to Lightroom Classic. Must say I like Lightroom Classic much better as an organizational/editing tool. Ever since I transitioned exporting images to my camera roll via the Lightroom Mobile app results in pretty small file sizes as it's exporting from the Smart Preview file intstead of the actual image file. I really only use these exports to share on Instagram/Facebook/Twitter. For Instagram these smaller image files are just fine, but I do like larger files for sharing on Facebook. For end uses that require larger files (i.e. printing, my website, etc...) I just export using Lightroom Classic to whatever file size I need on my Mac.
