Film Strip order changes after external edit

When in Lightroom Classic, I always display my images in a folder in Filename order. However, when I use an external editor to further process an image, and then return to LRC, the filmstrip order has been changed to Custom Order and the original image and the edited one are now right at the end of the strip.

Am I doing something wrong? or is this a recent bug?
