help with Lightroom edit mode

every picture i open in the edit mode looks like this, including the Adobe tutorial pictures.  What am i doing wrong??

Try going to MENU: Edit > Preferences > Performance,  and change the "Use Graphics Processor" option to [Off].

Sometimes corrupt image files (from- camera, usb transfer, etc) can give similar appearance, but your screen-clip does look to be more Graphics related.

You could also try updating your Graphics driver from the manufacturer site.
