Question

help with sizing an image for printing please!

I would like to print an 11x14" using the original .jpg from my Canon Rebel. The image fills the frame with just a bit of negative space on the sides, but when I go to print 11x14", it crops off too much along the right and left sides in order to fit. It ends up cutting off part of the subject on either side....just a sliver, but it's enough to negatively impact the print. Is there any way that I can fit or save the image so that it will fit an 11x14 without any side-to-side cropping?

Most digital SLR cameras shoot images in a 2:3 aspect ratio. 11 x 14 is not that same ratio. In order to make the image "fit" the 11 x 14" print, it will be necessary for you to crop the image. That means it will be necessary for some of the image to be eliminated. You will have to make the choice of what part of the image that will be. You can use Lightroom Classic or some other software to create a crop template in that aspect ratio so that you can crop the image satisfactorily.

    Hi there,

Could you please confirm the version of Lightroom you are currently using by going to the Help menu > System info?

The print dialogue would automatically give you an overlay of the printable area based on the size (aspect ratio) you are trying to print in however it would not adjust (resize) the image as per the size you are trying to print. It would maintain the original aspect ratio of the image.

If you wish to print the image you have shared on a 11x14'' size then the image would either be cropped or it would leave a border on each size to adjust the image in the center of the image since the image is not in the aspect ratio in which you are trying to print.
