Question

How do I sort albums and folders together?

In the Albums tree on the left side of the screen, folders always appear first, followed by albums. How can I sort these entries by A-Z without regard for the type? In other words, I don't want the folders to always be first: I just want everything sorted alphabetically.

Hi @kaiyoma,

Sorry for the delayed response, and thanks for the question! At the moment, Lightroom always groups folders first and albums/collections after in the Albums panel, and there’s no built-in way to mix them together in a single alphabetical list. Sorting A-Z or Z-A works only within each group.

I came across a discussion where a user is facing a similar type of limitation, and our community experts shared plugin-based approaches that might help in certain workflows:

It might be worth checking out. There are a couple of suggestions in that thread that could give you some flexibility.

@Anshul_Saini That thread appears to be for Lightroom Classic. Is there any hope that Adobe would natively add this functionality to Lightroom?

Sorry for the confusion earlier. You’re right that the thread relates to Lightroom Classic, not Lr CC. I’m not part of the product or engineering team, so I can’t say whether this functionality might be added. The best step is to post your request in the Ideas section of the community, where our product team regularly reviews feedback and considers it for future updates.
