How do I switch between grid view and edit mode via keyboard shortcut without annoying warning messa

I am on the latest versions of Lightroom CC and MacOS, and use the "g" and "e" keys to switch between edit and grid view of my photos, but I now see an annoying warning about edit controls only being available in detail view. On my laptop, this error column takes up valuable space. Am I doing something wrong? What is the best way to switch between these two views using keyboard shortcuts? Thank you.
