Question

How to download RAW files to LR Eco that were imported into LR Classic

Friends,

How do I download RAW files that were imported into LR Classic into LR CC? I primarily use LR Classic and import my RAW files into classic. I sync classic with LR CC but I am only able to download smart previews into LR CC. Conversely, if I import RAWs directly into LR CC, which I do when I'm traveling and have only my ipad, the RAWs are uploaded to the cloud through LR CC. When I return home, will sync the RAW with my desktop, leaving me with RAWs on my desktop AND in the cloud.

Does my question make sense? Ultimately, I want to be able to edit RAW files in LR CC that I originally imported into LR Classic. Is that possible?

FWIW, I'm using a mac and ipad.

Thanks!

Steve

If you have Smart Previews synced from Lightroom Classic then you can import or drop the RAWs into Lightroom Desktop (foermerly LRCC).

This will overwrite the Smart Previews in the Cloud (whilst maintaining any edits you have made)

Your question does make sense, and it is possible, but IMO unless you have a special good reason to have all your full-size raw files in the Cloud, (which would require more storage than the basic 20GB) it is better to stick with Lr-Classic as your master photo library 'controller'.

The question has been asked by others, and one answer has been given by @JohanElzenga as follows-

you cannot sync a full raw image to the cloud from Lightroom Classic, only a smart preview. However, you can replace this smart preview by the full image in the following way:

1: Sync the image from Lightroom Classic

2: Install Lightroom (desktop) on your computer too if you have not done that already

3: Import the original (not an exported copy) in Lightroom desktop. Lightroom desktop will see that there already is a smart preview of this image in the cloud and will replace it by the original raw.

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.1.1, Photoshop 27.3.1, ACR 18.1.1, Lightroom 9.0, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.2 .

That doesn’t quite get at what I’m trying to do. I have already imported (and edited) the RAW image in classic. Classic has synced the smart preview to the cloud, and it is the smart preview that is downloaded, and otherwise made available to cc. I want to be able to download the RAW image, including edits, to cc. Is that possible?

Thanks!

You "Replace" the Smart Preview with a RAW file version exactly as I, and @selondon suggest- import or drop the RAWs into Lightroom Desktop.
