How to free space on iPad after I’m done with edits.

Hi all. As I moved completely to a mobile photography life I’m also looking at the best workflow, app, best way to enjoy it.

I’m using Lightroom as main app to take pictures, edit etc. I’m also using other Adobe apps to simplify my mobile life.

I have a question about Lightroom and hope someone could reply to me.

What is the difference between smart preview and originals? Which is the best option to keep free space on the iPad? Does Lightroom free automatically space after you done with edits or the photos stays on your device?
In a cloud system I’m expecting to work with the file locally but then after i’m Done photos will move back to the Cloud leaving the device empty and eventually just a low res image to view.

Can some one help me to understand?

M

A smart preview is a special kind of small copy of the original. It is meant so you can work with your images, edit them, show them, without needing the original on the device. If you want to save space, then check the option in Lightroom to 'Only download Smart Previews', so the device only contains smart previews and your originals are stored in the cloud.

Thank you Johan for your reply. Wonderful thank you for that.

Does Lightroom free the space at every restart of the app or of the iPad because files are stored on the cloud or once you downloaded on your device they will stay there either smart or original?

What happens on the device is depending on the settings. If you tap on the three dots behind the name of an album, you can specify whether of not you want that album available for offline editing by selecting 'Store locally'. In that case the smart previews are stored on the device. Otherwise they are downloaded when needed.
