How to move Files vom Lightroom Mobile on iPad to Lightroom Classic on Mac without Internet?

Hey everybody,

I just got an iPad and now I am figuring out how to properly use Lightroom Mobile, respectively how to establish a useful workflow. So lets start with my preconditions and my problem. I am just coming from a Photoshoot and have 60GB of RAW Photos on my SD Card. Now i would like to edit them on my iPad and later store them in my Lightroom Catalog on my Mac. I know, that I can import them on my iPad and they automatically appear in my synced up library in Lightroom Classic on my mac - but this workflow requires a solid internet connection AND it takes AGES, especially the upload. So I am trying for hours now but can't find a way, to edit pictures on my iPad, copy them back on a harddrive WITH all the settings and then copy them on my Computer from there. I think there must be a way - I can't believe that professionals who want to use Lightroom Mobile rely on uploading hundreds of gigabytes to the cloud before being able to use the data on a computer or any other system later.

Thanks for your help!

Greetings,

Felix

You could also export the raw files as DNG, which would retain the raw data but also would contain the edits and other metadata in the XMP section of the header, which LrClassic will of course read and apply.

You don't even need to export to the Camera Roll if both the iPad and your Mac support Airdrop. So, use the "Export As" option in Lightroom on the iPad, select DNG (or Tiff) as the filetype, then use the Airdrop option to get them to your Mac, then import from there into LrC.

If you don't even have a local WiFi LAN, you could export to Files on the iPad, then copy from there to an attached hard drive for subsequent import to LrC.

Good point. I forgot about DNG. That would retain the raw data and still contain the edits.

The answer is that you can't do this without an internet connection. Lightroom mobile has no option to export original RAW images with edits as XMP files, so your only option would be to export the images as TIFF to the Camera Roll. You can then import these images from the iPad into Lightroom Classic by connecting the iPad to the computer through its cable, but I don't think that is really an option.
