How to sync LR mobile edits to files in classic catalog?

Hi folks,

I have an iphone. All of my iphone photo's live in a LR Classic catalog. I copy the raw files to my computer, then import the to LR Classic catalog, and there they live. Recently, I began using the LR mobile app. I selectively import photos from the iphone into the LR app, edit them on the go, and upload them for use on social media etc.

I am trying to figure out how to most seamlessly get my LR Mobile edits applied to the instance of the raw file in my LR Classic catalog on my computer.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Do not import iPhone photos directly to the Classic Catalog!

Simply turn on [Sync] in the Lightroom-Classic Catalog (only one catalog can sync) and ALL photos in the iPhone Lightroom-mobile app will automatically download to a specified folder in the computer hard-drive. See the link-

Reverse the order: 1) Setup the folder for downloads in LrC Preferences,  2) Turn on Sync.

I almost ended up in the same boat but i opted to import all my iphone and mirrorless camera raw photos into LR (mobile or desktop depending on where i am) since as far as I was aware it was not possible to sync LR & LR classic.
Now i found out from this thread (thanks @Rob_Cullen ) that LR classic could sync all photos stored in LR (or cloud in other words) which is really good since i could now simply store everything in the cloud as well as locally on the hard drive.
I believe that any edits done in LR classic with that worflow would also show up in LR on mobile/desktop.

Not sure if this would be the easiest or correct way since it would mean investing time to do that but I thought i share it anyways. Anyone could correct me if i am wrong here.

- Add all photos stored in LR classic (while sync is off) into LR.
- Set up Lightroom classic (sync) in preferences (create a new folder called synced images)

- Next time you import use LR on desktop or mobile instead of LR classic

- Turn sync on in LR classic.

Now any edits done afterwards in either LR mobile/desktop or LR classic would end up in the synced images.

Next up would be to clean up the hard drive from all "old imported" photos stored in LR classic since the new synced images folder would be the only one you need going forward.

hope this helps.

Thank you, Rob. My issue is that I take thousands of photos, and edit hundreds on my phone as I go. It is much too difficult to seek out thwe few hundred photos amongst thousands on my iphone when I import everything, in order not to import those photos. I do not want my huge iphone camera roll to auto sync to my classic catalog. I want to be able to control it offline, and only sync to lightroom mobile app with the photos that are currently in the app.

In any event, now that the deed is done and I already have all of the raw files from my phone in a lightroom classic catalog, can you please let me know what the best practice is to get the lightroom edits from the lightroom ios app to be synced to the instance of those files that are currently in my classic catalog? Thank you

I see two situations.- (but not fully aware of a correct answer)

1) Any photo that automatically downloaded by turning on the Sync in Lr-Classic will have the ios app edits automatically applied- By the Sync process. Edits in either location will sync 'up and down' (LrC < >  Lr ) , but only if sync is on in LrC.

2) If you Import photos -Phone direct to Lr-Classic, then Lr (Cloud) does not know of these images (if not added to a synced LrC Collection).- Lr-mobile only knows about the image that the phone that syncs up to the Cloud. They are considered as separate images. So Nothing syncs between these two versions of the one image.!

The only way to sync edits LrC < >  Lr  is to have 'Sync' turned on in LrC! That is the one big limitation, -it syncs all your images in the Lr Cloud as you have found.
