Question

I am unable to export my generatively upscaled images from Lightroom. What should I do?

Today I have been able to export hundreds of photos that I have not edited, or are edited without using the Generative Upscale function in Lightroom. I have not been able to export a single generatively upscaled images and have been working on it for five hours. I have restarted my computer, updated Lightroom and restarted lightroom. What do I need to do to export these upscaled images?

For reference I am on a 2022 Mac Mini, Lightroom was updated today, I have 220 GB free on my hard drive, and I am connected to the internet. For export settings I am trying to export in JPEG 100% Full size with copyright data (I have tried with metadata with no success).

Every time I export it will open the bar for export progress, and nothing will happen, even up to 15 minutes later. For reference, I exported hundreds of photos earlier in less than 5 minutes.

Update: I have dropped the quality of any upscaled edit to 30%, resulting in low single digit megabyte files, and I am still not able to get any progress while exporting them. Still no issue exporting non upscaled images on the other hand.

    Hi @Derek2497

Sorry to har about this issue. When exports fail after Generative Upscale in Lightroom, it’s usually related to the file state rather than the export command itself. Based on what’s commonly seen in similar cases, here are a few things to check:

    • Make sure the upscaled image has fully finished processing and syncing before exporting. If the Generative Upscale is still active, the file isn’t ready to export yet.
    • Try exporting to a different format (for example, JPEG or TIFF) to rule out a format‑specific issue.
    • If this is happening with multiple images, test with one newly upscaled image to see if the behavior is consistent.
    • Restart Lightroom and try the export again to clear any temporary processing state.

If it still doesn’t export, try following these steps:

    • Copy-paste the System Info from Lighttoom’s Help menu (Help > System Info)
    • Reset Preferences for Lightroom. Quit Lightroom,  press and hold the Shift + Option keys. While holding down the keys, launch Lightroom, and a dialog box will appear; choose Reset Preferences.

Let us know if this helps or if you need further assistance.
