Question

I need your help! Edge detection on this system is awful. Any tips?

I do photography for a living, and I often like to change the background of the object I am doing photos of, color, etc. Whenever I use the mask tool and select the object, it does a terrible job of finding the edges. I then have to go in with a subtract brush to clean up around the object I have selected... I have spent hundreds of hours doing this. Any suggestions? You are all most likely better at this than I am...

Hi @Jason31366759vt32, welcome to the community!
We’d love to help you figure this out. When you have a moment, could you share the exact version of Lightroom you’re using, along with your macOS version? Keeping both updated often improves performance, so if you haven’t checked for updates yet, it’s a good place to start.
If the issue continues, screenshots of what you’re seeing on your end would really help us understand the problem more clearly.
Thanks so much,
Alek

Hi @Jason31366759vt32,

Thank you for letting me know which version of Lightroom you’re currently using. It appears that your version is over a year and a half old. I recommend updating Lightroom when your system permits.

To assist you further, please share your system information. You can find this in Lightroom by going to Help > System Info.

Best,

^CM
