I take 2000 RAW files at football matches and process them in LR, the process is unacceptbly slow. Why?

I take about 2000 RAW files at football matches and when I process them in Lightroom offline.  It can take five or six hours.  This is unacceptable. What is going wrong?  What can be done to remedy this?

      What specifically is slow? For high volume shooting Lightroom Classic is a much better choice as it has many more workflow tools for bulk editing but Lightroom Desktop/Cloud should still work just fine.
