Question

I've been using my laptop with lightroom (cc) for a while and I want to start using it on my imac pro. The folder structure holds but all the folders are empty on my iMac. I use icloud for photo storage on both computers.

Please help.

Hi, one important point first: Lightroom (cloud) doesn’t move its library through iCloud. When you add photos to Lightroom, it copies them and uploads the full-resolution originals to Adobe’s cloud, and that same library then appears on any device signed in with the same Adobe ID. Photos you only open via the Local tab are just files on that computer — they aren’t imported or synced.

A few checks that should pin this down:1. On the iMac, make sure Lightroom is signed in with exactly the same Adobe ID as on the laptop.2. Open lightroom.adobe.com in a browser with that account. If your photos and albums appear there, they are safely in the Adobe cloud — just leave the iMac app open and online and let it finish syncing.3. If they don’t appear on the web either, go back to the laptop and check that sync there has fully finished, and that the photos were actually added to Lightroom (File > Add Photos), not only viewed from the Local tab.

Adobe’s doc explains the add/sync behaviour here: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/desktop/add-import-and-capture-photos/add-photos.html

Could you tell us what you see at lightroom.adobe.com — photos there, or empty as well? That will show where things stand.

I guess what I’m trying to say is I only have the 20gb adobe cloud storage.  The photos are not in there, they’re in my iclould on both machines.  Even when I copy the photos over to the hard drive of the iMac the folders are still empty in Lightroom.  The adobe storage is maxed out with old photos.  The photos are empty in lightroom.adobe.com because I don’t use adobe cloud.

I’d like to avoid using adobe cloud for storage because it’s overpriced and I have much more storage in iCloud although I see now why Adobe wants you to use their cloud with this issue I’m running into.  My next attempt would be to copy over the Library.lrlibrary file from my laptop and replace the one in my iMac but the file is massive.  This is all a bit frustrating… all because I didn’t use adobe’s cloud for storage.  Ugh.
