Question

Image renders differently when zoomed in after edits

Images render differently when you zoom in after brightness edits. Tested on 9.6 on MacOS 27 on an M5 Max MacBook Pro with compressed raw files from my a7R V. Seems to always be present to varying degrees but most noticeable after large changes, particularly if done with the curve settings.

Hey, @Generous_view0D45. Thanks for adding the video; it demonstrates the behavior.

Are there any other edits applied to the image? Are you working through the Local or the Lightroom Cloud tab? Is HDR enabled for this machine, and just to confirm, is this the MBP's Display, or an HDR-compatible external display?

Have you started seeing this only after updating to Lightroom v9.6?

In my attempts with sample raw images, including but not limited to ARW, I couldn't reproduce this on my MBP's (GG-27.0.1) internal display or on an HDR-compatible external display. Will wait for any experts to chime in and for additional details, a longer video, and other specifics before I move your post back to bugs.

    Thanks!

No HDR, the file is fully loaded locally but it's in cloud. Using the internal display. Dark areas made light using the curves as demonstrated seem to make the effect most visible. I've reproduced this immediately after resetting edits, so the only change applied would be the camera matching profile applied.

@Sameer K I've just confirmed that the issue does still happen with the default Adobe Color profile, however the effect is much more subtle. If you want to see the issue at the same magnitude as I was experiencing it, switch to Sony's Camera NT color matching profile, but again, the issue is present regardless of the profile, just to varying degrees.

Also, I'm not sure if this was new to 9.6 or if I just didn't notice it before, but I feel like I would've noticed it at some point.
