Import Error for Lightroom on Nikon D5500 for Mac

I found an error that tells me "no images that can be imported were found in the selected source" when using a cable to connect my Nikon D5500 camera and lightroom. Strangely, the camera can import perfectly to apple photos through the same method, but the finder application doesn't ever display it at all. My Macos is Sonoma 14.6.1. Is this a file compatibility issue/how can I fix it? Thanks

Hi @abstract_magic9803,

Thanks for sharing the details and screenshots. Based on what you’ve described, here are a few steps you can try:
 • On the Nikon D5500, check the USB connection mode in the camera Setup Menu. Most Nikon cameras have two storage modes: MTP and PTP. Ensure it is set to (MTP) Mass Storage and reconnect.
 • Try removing the SD card from your camera and using an external card reader. This is the most reliable method, as both macOS and Lightroom see the card as a drive.
 • Confirm Lightroom has permissions in macOS. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Files and Folders and ensure Lightroom has access to Removable Volumes and Full Disk Access.
 • If the Finder does not show the camera or card, Lightroom will not be able to work with it. In that case, using a card reader will be necessary.
 • Ensure you’re running the latest Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw versions.

If you’re still unable to import, as a workaround, you can export the images as originals from Apple Photos and then import them into Lightroom manually.

Let us know if you’re switching to the USB mode or using a card reader?

Best,

Edit: On the cameras loaded SD card, there are images of multiple types (NEF, JPG) so I don't think that the files are simply the wrong types.
