Import from iCloud download doesn't catch image duplicates because date chagnes

Hello, I'm trying to import photos from iCloud, some of which are already in my Lightroom Cloud library. When I did the import, Lightroom did not catch the duplicates.  I looked in Windows explorer and it seems that when I downloaded from iCloud it change the created date to today's date.  How do I import from iCloud to LR and have it catch duplicates?  Do I need to find a way to keep 'created date' intact when I download from iCloud?
