Import permissions

I am trying to import files from an external HD to LR through Bridge.  Usually I select the files for editing and drag them into LRcc.  I have been doing this for years now, until today.  Now I am getting error message that I don't have permission to import the files.  I have not updated software or hardware since last use and have not changed cameras or drives.  I have not altered directories on source HD.  Confused as to what is different from my typical workflow.
