import photos, stuck at 0

Question

When I import photos from any folder, I get the "Import files at their current location" progress bar. But it hangs forever with no progress.

I've been unable to use lightroom for months.

using Lightroom 5.7 on 2019 iMac with macOS 12.5.1

Lightroom v5.7 (Perpetual version) (from 2013) is not certified to be compatible with Mac Monterey. It is a wonder that it works at all!

For a new Mac OS you need new versions of the software-
