importing directly from sd memory

Hello, yesterday I installed the new iOS 16.3.1 version on my ipad pro (3rd generation) and I encountered the following problem when I want to import photos from a memory card: I insert the card and click "add photos from device with camera". I get all the photos and scrolling down the preview is very slow.
Normally I don't import all the photos but only the ones I choose and before this iOS version scrolling down was very fast and the photos were displayed immediately. Now they have to load and the preview is very slow, I scroll down and for a few seconds the previews are black.
I have also updated Lightroom to version 8.2.1 but the problem persists. Has anyone experienced the same problem and knows how to solve it?

When importing, Lightroom is reading image data from your memory card to display those thumbnail images.  JPG images may be read directly, while images captured in a Raw format often gave tiny thumbnail images imbedded in them and Lightroom will display those if available.  When Lightroom is in the import screen, it really is focused showing you thumbnails for images on the screen.  

 

To revisit and keep displaying images in a fast-performing way Lightroom would need to build an image index and thumbnail database.  Importing the images into Lightroom accomplishes this.  Once you import images from your SD card into Lightroom, the app can quickly work from it's own image database and rely on the speed of your iOS device (and not your SD card).  I don't know what speed your SD card is, but import screen image loading performance relates directly to the speed of the SD card.  It may help to try a faster SD card, if possible.

Unfortunately, this does not solve my problem. When I shoot ice hockey I take approx. 500 photos (jpeg) per period.

Until the last update I could go through the previews in 1-2 minutes and choose the photos to import. The SDs are fast and until the last update I didn't have some problems looking at the previews (like in my video I loaded last time).

Now it is a disaster and slows my work down by at least 5-10 min.

Thanks for the additional info.  I don't think Lightroom's code for direct import has changed recently, so I wonder if this is more about a recent iOS update, or a change in you capturing raw images now instead of simpler JPG images.

 

Is it possible this coincided with an iOS update?
