Question

Importing Image files without a file extension

Hello All, I hope you can help.  I archive and support artists with their images.

I have just been handed a hard drive with thousands of images.  None of them have a file extension.  Lightroom will not import an image without a .tif, or a .jpg, or some other extension.  If I add a .tif, Lightroom happily recognises it.

Can anyone tell me how to import the images (I believe they are all scanned .tifs) into lightroom?

Thank you for any help

Hugh

You say "I believe they are all scanned tiffs". Unfortunately, Lightroom cannot import images based on beliefs. It needs to know the file format of the image, and it gets that information from the file extension. So unfortunately, you will have to add that extension to the images before you try to import them. There may be rename utilities that let you do that.
