Importing the same files in both Lightroom CC and Classic

Hi,

I'm considering switching to Lightroom from Nikon Capture NX-D as the NX-D version is simply not good enough.

I have read that in order to get edited RAW files from Lightroom CC (for iPad) to Lightroom CC Classic, you have to use the cloud.

However, what happens in the following scenario:

I go somewhere bringing only my iPad. While I'm away I decide that I would like to share some of the pictures I've taken on Google Photos. I import e.g. 10 RAW files to the iPad, edit them in Lightroom CC and upload them to Google Photos. These 10 pictures will of course also be uploaded to CC and downloaded to my desktop (running Lightroom Classic) when I get home. Now at home, I would of course like to import all files from my memory card(s). What happens now? Assuming that I set the same naming when I import the files, will Lightroom detect that the 10 files that were imported on the iPad have been edited and keep those files instead of overwriting them with the unedited files from the full import of the memory cards.

Thanks in advance.

Lr Classic's Import dialog has a Do  Not Import Duplicates checkbox, so wait for those x files to sync down into the catalogue before running that import.

    Hi,

Thank you to both of you.

selondon: The reason I was asking the question is that I would like to avoid having to handle the import when I get home differently than if I hadn't imported a limited number of the files for editing on the trip. If I import all the photos, uploading to CC on the trip could take ages and the same would be the case for downloading them again when I get home.

Thank you for the tip about sharing from CC. However, I really like Google Photos because all my pictures taken with my smartphone reside there as well and because it's very easy to collaborate on albums as many people I know use Google Photos.

If sync is turned on in Classic, there is no need to reimport the Photos. The full res files will automatically download from the Cloud into the downloads folder (set in Classic‘s Preferences) and can be moved, in Classic, to your desired folder structure in required.

Also you could share the photos from Lightroom CC if required, bypassing the use for Google Photos.

Yes, it should do. And did do, last time I tested this.
