Please help, I think I need specific step by step instructions on the best way to move/download iphone images to my hard drive (I use Lightroom Classic).

I'd recommend using the LR App on the phone, and syncing those images with LRC on your computer.

Within the iPhone LR app, you can select images from your camera roll, or set it to auto import all images from the camera roll if your prefer.

Once you have that set up, you'll want to make sure you have LRC preferences set up to have the synced images placed into the correct folder. I have all my Originals in LRC on a separate drive, organized by date - and I have the sync set up to honor that organization strategy:
