Unless the Downloader has been significantly improved during the last couple of years, I wouldn’t recommend it (too many things didn’t download, notably any metadata added in Lightroom after import). I would hope things have changed, I supplied some comprehensive data to the team about the deficiencies, but haven’t tested of late. Also, of course, using the Downloader requires a complete download and re-upload, whereas with the shared album route everything is contained within the cloud servers.
But the shared album route CAN work, but it has to be done the right way round. It sounds in this case that it wasn’t done correctly, so to recap the procedure, it is as follows:
- Login to LrD using the NEW account details, create a new album and share it with the OLD account, ensuring that “Can Contribute” is enabled.
- Logout of the NEW account, login to the OLD account, launch LrD and ensure that the album created in step 1 is now visible in the “Shared with You” album list.
- Still in the OLD account, click on All Photos, then do Ctrl/Cmd+A to select them all, right-click on one of the selected photos and use “Add to Album”, selecting the shared album. That will copy the complete set of photos into that shared album.
- Logout of the OLD account, login to the NEW account, launch LrD and that album should now be populated with all the images from the OLD account, but being the owner of the album the images can be copied from the shared album into any other existing album.
Allow some time between 3 and 4 to allow the data to be copied from OLD to NEW accounts.
