Question

is there a way to stop the C button from resetting the aspect ratio in lighroom?

When I paste an edit setting into a photo, it is pasting my crop setting which is 3x2.216.  But if I want to adjust the position of the crop, I hit the C button to enter crop mode, and it resets the crop to 3x2, which is as shot.

I then have to click on the crop ratio and choose my custom crop ratio again.

is there a way to keep the C button from resetting my crop ratio? It didn’t do this till the latest update.

now it’s taking MUCH longer to edit, because I have to reset the crop ratio on every photo.  it’s hugely time consuming.

Yes, I see the same issue when I follow your sequence of events. So it looks like a bug to me, which Adobe will need to verify.

In the meantime, it seems that if you use Ctrl/Cmd+Z (undo) after you’ve use the C button to enter the crop, that will revert the crop to your expected custom ratio which then allows you to make the adjustments. Worth a try.

@Jim Wilde @goneballistic we are unable to reproduce this in house. Can you share your step by step workflow or a video of the issue? We might be missing something on our end.

    I’m currently using Lightroom version: 9.3.1 arm64 [ 20260429-1653-6cd29ca ] (Apr 29 2026)

Are you on Windows or Mac?

@CMass Sorry, I’m now unable to reproduce. May be intermittent, but I know how difficult those types of problem can be to resolve. I’ll keep an eye on it.
