Issue for the copy and import settings

Hello, 

 

I am really disapoint and sorry for my english.

Firstly, I just tried the new Lightroom on my new mac M1 Max, I was really happy with it and 

even get use to really quick of the new interface and also the setup of how LR tidy my photo.

 

what i say is, when I import it. It tidy everything straigt by Date and that its really good compare to LR Classic were I have to do by myself. 

 
Second issue and I tried already to change the settings, When I import a photo, LR copy an original of each photo in another folder, Why?  I would like to import the photo and keep the original were is it and that's it. I don't need to have a copy somewhere else.  Please tell me I am missing a part of the setting of LR? Thanks you.

That is by design. When you import images (either from an existing hard drive or from a camera memory card) Lightroom first copies those images into its own Originals folder, and it's from that folder that Lightroom uploads the images to the cloud. The initial source for those images is ignored by Lightroom, the user is free to do whatever they want with them.

This is the way the desktop version of Lightroom (the cloud based version) is supposed to work. When you import, it will copy the image into a hidden folder. It will then upload this image to the cloud. After a while and if you are not actively working on the image, it will delete this first copy. In cloud based Lightroom, master originals are always in the cloud and it will on-demand download full raw files when needed. If you want to use local files as the master copies and keep them where yoou out them yourself, you should use Lighroom Classic instead. It works on the assumption that all master files arre local and not in a cloud environment.

well, Thanks guys for all your answers, I will cancel my plan and come back with Classsic.

 

Could be good to have the same features in Classic to tidy straight the catalog per day, months, year unstead create folder etc..

Folders in Lightroom are not like folders in Lightroom Classic. They are like collection sets. They contain albums and albums are like collections in Lightroom Classic. So if you see the same image in different albums and folders, then that does not mean these are copies.

So the copy of my photo in the folder Original of the Library isnt ? Because if I check the size of the files, the photo are copy inside.. otherwise how could I get 200 giga library LR just after imported them ?

I thought you were talking about online folders. The 'Originals' folder inside the Library on your hard drive is a real folder with real copies. Lightroom should clear them up after a while, unless you set in the preferences that you want to save a copy locally.
