Question

Keyword discrepancy between Lightroom Classic and LR CC

Hello! For years I’ve added keywords to images in Lightroom Classic, which then show up in Lightroom CC when I sync albums. I recently replaced my MacMini with a MacBook Pro. Since then, the keywords added in Lightroom Classic no longer show up in Lightroom CC. Nothing else in my workflow has changed. Anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

thanks!

Keywords don't sync! (Full Stop!) The 'heirarchal' design of KWs in Lr-Classic is not compatible with the 'Flat' design of KWs in Lightroom. Never have.

KWs existing in an image metadata will be added in Lightroom, only once, when an image is freshly imported, but that's the end of any KW 'sync' Lr<>LrC. This would explain why you see some KWs from LrC in Lr.

COMPARE LIGHTROOM & LIGHTROOM-CLASSIC FEATURES

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.3, Photoshop 27.5, ACR 18.3, Lightroom 9.3, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.3 .

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I can tell you’re very passionate about the topic!! Unfortunately, it doesn’t answer my question. I’ll try to give more detail…

Since 2020, in my workflow, every image is imported and edited in LR Classic and are given keywords upon import. Those keywords then magically show up (not sync since “Keywords don’t sync! Full stop!”) in Lightroom. That is, until July 2024 when I replaced my MacMini with a MacBook Pro.

Is there any reason why this might be?

Thanks!

Keywords used to sync up from Lightroom Classic to the cloud once, under certain conditions. That is what you describe here. This has changed with the new sync engine, however. Now keywords do not sync at all, full stop.
