The short answer is: it depends on your workflow. Both apps are included with current Lightroom plans, so you can even use them together.

Choose Lightroom (cloud-based) if you:

• Want your full-resolution photos automatically available across desktop, mobile, web, and tablet.
• Prefer Adobe to manage syncing and storage for you.
• Mostly edit on multiple devices or shoot with your phone.
• Like a simpler interface with less file management.

Choose Lightroom Classic if you:

• Store your photos locally on internal or external drives.
• Have a large photo library (hundreds of thousands or millions of images).
• Need advanced organization tools, printing, books, slideshows, plugins, or more granular control.
• Have slower internet or prefer not to rely on cloud storage.

Can you use both?
Yes. Many photographers do. Classic can sync selected collections with the Lightroom cloud ecosystem so you can edit on mobile or the web. Just keep in mind there are some sync limitations, and Classic is generally best treated as the primary archive if that's your main application.

A simple rule of thumb:

• 📱 Mobile-first, cloud-first, multiple devices → Lightroom
• 💻 Desktop-first, local storage, advanced workflows → Lightroom Classic
