I have an existing PC Windows 10 with Lightroom 6. Am buying a new PC Windows 11 and subscription Lightroom 1TB, (I thought it was called Lightroom Classic). My question, is it preferable to download Lightroom 1TB on older PC W10 first and setting up with existing LR6 back up catalog OR installing on new PC W11 with LR6 back up catalog OR it does not matter either method?

One small point- Re: "the perpetual newer version of Photoshop Elements"

Photoshop Elements is now on a 'Three Year' plan basis. Requires renewal each 3 years.

OK, was not aware of 3 year renewal as I have not checked out Photoshop elements yet, thanks for the advice

Since May 2025 the "Lightroom Plan" has included Lightroom-Classic.

Lightroom-Classic is the only app that will read and update your Lr6 catalog.

Lightroom-Classic is the app you need to install.

Thanks for your reply. Will check out links

I checked the Adobe AU website link for Lightroom Classic with Photoshop and find it very confusing as every plan is shown bar LRC. Cannot locate the plan as per your one above Will keep searching.

I haved moved LR6 back up catalogs' between PCs' before with no problem.  My enquiry is  if there is any issue with setting up a LR6 back up catalog onto Lightroom Classic on new PC. I think not but wanted to make sure

@fitzarc  Try this US link to buy plans-

https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/photography.html#

At the bottom of the page you will find the Photography Plan that includes Photoshop-

One issue I can forsee is installing Lr6 on the new system. Activation servers for Lr6 are non existant so activating is near impossible. (You might get 30days trial)

You might be better to copy your current Lr6 catalog  and all your photos (in their exact folder heirarchy) to the new system, and install Lightroom-Classic. Ignore any empty catalog that LrC might create, instead double-click the copied Lr6 catalog (in File Explorer) to open and allow it to upgrade.

Re-linking the folders of photos in the catalog (if shown as 'Missing')  might be needed, but that is not difficult.

NO Importing of photos!. A catalog from a Backup is not needed- copy the current working Lr6 catalog.
