Lightroom (and all of my other Adobe apps) crash during use

I have been using the same desktop computer with my Adobe Creative Cloud apps for more than 5 years.  With the most recent update(s), I cannot get Lightroom to work without freezing at a random moment.  When lightroom freezes, it locks everything up and I have to reboot to get Lightroom to close completely so I can relaunch it, etc.  

Here’s my system details:

Dell XPS 8940

  • 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11700 @ 2.50GHz (2.50 GHz) processor
  • 16.0 GB (15.7 GB usable) RAM
  • 64-bit operating system
  • Windows 11 Home, 25H2.  OS Build 26200.8037
  • Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.300.0
  • AMD Radeon RX 5700 - Driver version 32.0.21043.1005
  • Intel UHD Graphics 750 - Drive version 32.0.101.6078

 

I have tried installing and unistalling Lightroom mulitple times.  I have also restored my PC from scratch, downloaded drivers from AMD and installed those.  I have also tried using an older version of Lightroom.  

What happens is Lightroom launches as expected.  I can navigate and browse for images to edit/review/import.  I can scroll through everything imported.  When editing an image, I can typically apply a preset but if I try to retouch an image, the app freezes and I cannot close it no matter what.  I have to restart my PC.

This happens in both Lightroom Desktop and the cloud version.

This also happens with Photoshop.

    Hi @stjohnka,


    Thanks for the detailed description of the issue. Also, I understand how frustrating this is, especially since it’s affecting multiple apps.


    Let’s try isolating the issue first:

    • Go to Preferences > Performance in Lightroom

    • Disable Use Graphics Processor

    • Restart Lightroom and test again

    Do the same in Photoshop:

    • Preferences > Performance > uncheck GPU


    Also, please confirm:

    • Are you using custom presets (like third-party packs) or only default ones?

    • Did this start after a Windows update or after installing Creative Cloud 2026 apps?

    • Was everything stable on the 2025 versions?


    Very important, when it crashes, do you see the Adobe Crash Reporter? If so, please submit the report using the same email you used here. Once done, let us know, and we’ll pull crash logs from the backend and escalate.
