Lightroom and local storage requirements

Question

I am considering buying Lighroom, which according to my understanding uses cloud based storage for all pictures. However, what is not clear to me is if my pictures are stored BOTH in cloud and locally on my MacBook?

My problem:

My problem is that I have more pictures than I can store on my MacBooks local disk, and it would be great if Lightroom worked so that it used the cloud entirely for storage with minimal footprint on my local disk.

Can anyone confirm if my problem above can be solved by Lightroom?

The primary storage location for your photos is the Adobe Cloud. However, when you first import/add photos they are stored on your local disk drive. By default, they'll reside on your local disk until they've synced to the cloud or met the crtieria for removal from your local disk. The amount of local disk storage can be configured by you, but the actual amount of disk used may temporarily be higher until the sync process is complete. There are also options for storing copies of the original photos on your local disk. Likwise, keeping smart previews on your local disk. However, if you're short of local disk space I would not enable these options.
