Lightroom broken after an update

This morning I opened Lightroom for the first time in a week and all my images appeared blacked out. So I updated Lightroom and now all my albums have gone and I'm unable to 'add photos' or do anything in Lightroom except change prefrences. It says I have 1200 next to 'all photos' but nothing is there when I click on it.
