Lightroom CC faster than Classic

Hi,

I am coming from LR6 and had to decide between Classic and CC.

After installing both trials, I finally decided to go with CC.

The main reason was, that the performance of CC was much much faster.

Even with a reasonable fast system (Win10 64bit / i5-4460,4 Cores,3,2 MHz / 8GB RAM)

in Classic it always took seconds to zoom in or to edit my 42 Megapixel Raw files.

It improved after tuning all settings and the caching but still too slow to have fun.

In CC there are hardly any delays.

In all comparisons I have read and also how Adobe advertises CC

this performance boost compared to Classic has never been mentioned.

Is this only my experience?

Boris

Probably not surprising Boris, as LRCC is a brand new 1.2 version built from the ground up using new code. LR Classic is over 10 years old and the legacy coding needs to cope with a lot of functions developed over that period. For example the editing tools in LRCC are just available to the right of the thumbnails and there is no need to switch modules. Things like slideshows and galleries are delivered via the LRCC Web App whereas LR Classic has separate modules built in. But most customers have noticed Adobe’s recent performance improvements in Classic and it is committed to future development of both versions which serve different markets. However I think it’s fair to say that any future developments relating to the cloud eco system will be focused on LRCC.

Once I started using the web version of LR for client galleries and such I found it odd that culling images on the web was much faster than culling images in LR Classic. I realized that the web galleries made from LR Classic are based around smart previews so I started building smart previews in LR Classic and that sped up culling and navigating images in LR Classic for me.

I wonder if LR CC is faster because it uses smart previews as well?
