Hello, I have never been able to use "subtract" mask feature. Even when I click subtract, it gives me option to add instead. Is there any setting I might be missing?

Thank you all, still no luck fo rme. The movie is playing just fine for me, I am not sure why it wouldnot work.

I do not have issue selecting brush, or radial or linear mask. If I need to subtract the area over calculated by mask, it doesnot work for me at all. I even tried reinstalling the lightroom and still no luck.

I am attaching .mp4 file where you can see add selected even when I click subtract.

I use subtract on a regular basis.

The most common usage for me is when applying a gradient, or radial to an area of the image and I want to remove the subject or the sky from the area covered by the mask.

Thank you Shawn & Tim,

My problem I cant even select subtract, when I click subtract, add option gets selected. So subtract is pretty much "greyed out"

The MOV would not play fo rme earlier.

I am on Windows so I cannot test.

Try the key combination "Opt S" for Mac or "Alt S" for Windows.

Also, my Logitech Trackball has a auto select feature my daughter has turned on before. It always jumped to the wrong button for me. Make sure you have any such assist items turned off.

You are doing it correct.  You have all the same options to add to a mask as you do when subtracting.  For example if you select subtract and select Brush, your brush tip will have a negative sign (-) in the middle.
