Lightroom Classic > CC workflow discussion and help

Completely overhauling my workflow, and need input on my proposed workflow and questions about each stage.

Workflow:

1) Upload images from camera to External Hard drive.

2) Import images from external drive to Lightroom Classic.

  • Cull and edit in Classic
  • Allow Classic to sync my collection to Cloud only after wanted images only remain.

This is where questions start:

Will Lightroom CC register the edits that I did in Classic if I synced to cloud? If so, how do I import the images into CC to ensure this?

3) Import culled/edited images into Lightroom CC

  • Allow cloud sync in CC, this should bring in the images from Classic and their corresponding edits?
  • CC will make its own folder with the original images and edits?
  • Can I move this folder to my external hard drive?

4) Have all full-sized, original images with their edits stored on the Cloud

  • I want this, as I am paying for 1tb storage to keep all my images in the cloud as a backup if something happens to my laptop/external drive.

I desperately need input on this, any advice or answered questions would be immensely helpful.  I feel quite overwhelmed.

I'll try & clarify all the questions. I'll use in-line responses to address each point.

Will Lightroom CC register the edits that I did in Classic if I synced to cloud? If so, how do I import the images into CC to ensure this? - You can set up Sync-collections in Lightroom Classic to sync images & edits to Lightroom Cloud.

3) Import culled/edited images into Lightroom CC

  • Allow cloud sync in CC, this should bring in the images from Classic and their corresponding edits? - Yes, Lightroom Classic can sync images (only smart previews) to the cloud with edits.
  • CC will make its own folder with the original images and edits? - Images synced from Lightroom Classic are only smart previews. If you import & sync images from the Lightroom desktop app, you will be importing the original images.
  • Can I move this folder to my external hard drive? - What folder are you referring to?

4) Have all full-sized, original images with their edits stored on the Cloud

  • I want this, as I am paying for 1tb storage to keep all my images in the cloud as a backup if something happens to my laptop/external drive. - You can use Lightroom Classic to edit & upload smart previews. As a test, upload just 3-4 images from Lightroom Classic.
Go to Lightroom Web (https://lightroom.adobe.com) & check once the image has synced fully.
Go to Lightroom desktop, and import the same image from Lightroom desktop to replace the smart preview with an original. This is experimental & a large-scale operation might not work as expected.

You'll find a lot more good info on this page: https://helpx.adobe.com//lightroom-classic/kb/sync-faq.html

Let me know if this helps. Thanks!
