Question

Lightroom (cloud) is very slow

Okay so I know this topic comes every once in a while so here's my take and I hope we can all come together and fix a bit of that problem.

Especially when I open the mask tab Lightroom asks a loooot of resources, I can hear my laptop fans going full blast and the mouse input is laggy (and I usually only have up to 5 masks but even just 3 masks is barely usable). But it also happens a lot in the color tab.

Performance wise I have put everything on my dedicated GPU (RTX 4070) in the Lr settings in High Performance. Cache is set to 50Go.

I shoot with a Lumix S5ii so it's maxed at 24Mp.

I just tested changing basic things on a photo and Lr immidiately used 80% of my CPU and 45% of my RAM and made the temperature go up very fast (according to my computer fans) so it looks like the bottle neck is the CPU but I have an Ultra 9 and I can't find any CPU settings in Lr...

EDIT: I also have tried turning off HAGS(Hardware accelerated gpu scheduling) and disabling full screen optimizations. No change. The problem is that most solutions on the internet are for Lightroom Classic...

Did someone ever find a solution for this? What are your own settings?

PC (laptop) config:
Intel Ultra 9
GPU : Intel Arc Graphics + NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 (8Gb)
RAM 32Go
SSD NVMe Samsung 990 PRO 2TB
Doing all the work on a second monitor.

It can handle 6K footage on Davinci but not a single photo in Lightroom?? 😭

Hi @Jack253734113gfn! Welcome to the community, and sorry to hear you're running into issues with Lightroom.

Your system should definitely be powerful enough to run Lightroom smoothly. Just to narrow things down a bit, does the issue only happen when you open the Mask tab? And does the same thing happen if Lightroom is the only app running, with everything else closed in the background?

As a first step, it might help to try a clean reinstall of Lightroom.

1. Close Lightroom
2. Restart your computer
3. Open the Adobe Creative Cloud app and uninstall Lightroom
4. Restart your computer again
5. Reinstall Lightroom using the Creative Cloud app (don’t launch any other programs during this step)
6. Restart your computer one more time
7. Launch Lightroom
8. Wait about 5 minutes to let everything settle

If that doesn’t do the trick, the next thing we can try is resetting Lightroom’s preference file, since that file sticks around even after a reinstall. Here’s how to do that: https://adobe.ly/474W75Z

Let me know how it goes or if you need help with any of the steps!
Thanks so much,
Alek

"Hello,

I have been experiencing a significant performance issue with Adobe Lightroom on Windows 11. The application is slow and unresponsive, which severely affects my workflow. I have tried several troubleshooting steps, including updating the application, my graphics card drivers, and Windows itself, but the problem persists.

I hope you can help me find a solution. I've been considering switching to an alternative application due to this ongoing issue.

Thank you."

Hi @Z_K5022! Thank you for reaching out! I understand how frustrating it can be when Lightroom slows down your workflow.

Adding to the steps suggested by Aleke, you can try these as well:

1) Open NVIDIA Control Panel > 3D Settings > Program Settings.
Add Lightroom and set Power Management Mode to “Prefer Maximum Performance”.

2) Go to Edit > Preferences > Performance, set Use Graphics Processor to Custom and enable both:

  • Use GPU for display
  • Use GPU for image processing.
  • I suggest you experiment with different GPU modes (Auto, Off, and Custom) to see what works best for you.

3) Turn off Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling: Right-click on your Windows desktop > Display settings > Graphics >  Advanced Graphics settings, then toggle off Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling.

4) Purge Cache: Edit > Preferences > Cache > Clear Cache.

Let us know how it goes!
Cheers!
