Lightroom Crashes when making curves adjustment

Sorry for the late reply. It's lighteroom CC version 8.1. it happens on any image. if i make any curves adjustment lightroom completely freezes and becomes unresponsive. I've tried waiting to see if anything happens but nothing does. windows pops up with the whole this program is unresponsive and would you like to close it or wait. I've tried waiting but nothing so I just have to close it. one interesting thing about it is that usually when you close lightroom it reopens to the last image you were on. however, if i go to a different image and make a curves adjustment and close it, when I open it again it is not on that picture, but the one that was open before it like it didn't register that i was on that picture before
