Lightroom Desktop Catalog Storage

Question

I've been trying to back up my lightroom work to an external SSD. Backing up the originals to the drive was relatively straightforward, but I was wondering if it's possible to get the catalog or .xmp files to save the edits as well to the SSD. I'm under the impression that the edits are all stored on the cloud behind the scenes, but I would feel better having the catalog synced to my external drive. This process seems relatively straightforward for lightroom classic, but I haven't found anything regarding lightroom.
