Question

Lightroom Desktop exports some videos as 0–3 seconds, but Lightroom Web exports them correctly

I'm using Lightroom Desktop (Cloud version) 9.4.1 on Windows 10.

I'm having an issue where only some videos export incorrectly. The exported MP4 ends up being only 0–3 seconds long, even though the original video is much longer.

Here's what I've verified:

  • The affected videos play completely inside Lightroom Desktop.

  • The same videos export correctly from Lightroom Web.

  • Other videos from the same camera export normally in Lightroom Desktop.

  • All videos were recorded with a Nikon D3400 (MP4).

  • Clearing the Lightroom cache did not fix the issue.

  • Duplicating the video in Lightroom and exporting the duplicate also fails.

  • The videos don't have any special edits or trimming applied.

Has anyone experienced this issue or found a solution? Is this a known bug in Lightroom Desktop for Windows?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi @Gonzalo+Kern

Thanks for reaching out and for highlighting this issue. This is definitely not the typical behavior we'd expect from Lightroom.

I'd like to gather a bit more information to see if there's a pattern with the affected videos.

1. Identify the pattern in the affected videos
Please find 3–5 videos that export as only 0–3 seconds.

For one of those videos note the following:

  • Duration
  • Resolution (for example, 1920 × 1080)
  • Frame rate (for example, 30 fps or 60 fps)
  • File size

Then compare these details with videos from the same camera that export correctly. We're looking to see whether the issue is related to factors such as video length, frame rate, resolution, or whether the affected videos were recorded around the same time.

2. Reset Lightroom Desktop preferences
Please try resetting the Lightroom Desktop app by launching it while pressing and holding Shift + Option (macOS) or Shift + Alt (Windows). Then check if the issue persists after the reset.

Please let me know what you observe after trying these steps, and we'll continue troubleshooting from there.
