Lightroom doesn't give option of Edit in Photoshop

I want to edit a Lightroom file in Photoshop. For some files I see a menu option for Edit in Photoshop, but not for others. I'm on the most current release of both. Why can't I get that option for all files?

Did you try re-installing the applications? Are the files that don't show the 'Edit in' option of a specific file format?

Which version of Windows have you installed?
