Lightroom iPad: Export Settings for Share “File type” and “Dimensions” options greyed out

When I select the “Share” icon in the upper right of the UI, Export settings for Share opens. The top two options, “File type” and “Dimension” are greyed out, though I can still “Include watermark” and go to “More options”.

Previously, this was not the case. I could select both Fiel type and Dimension.

I realize I can set File type and Dimension in “Export as . . . “, but then why show greyed-out selection menus in Export Settings for Share?

I’ve checked with the team and this is the current expected behavior. Eventually, the inert items will be removed.

The workaround for people who want to use other sizes than "small" (2K) or formats other than JPEG is they can use Export As, which allows free selection of format and size and then offers the same sharing options as a second screen.

Hi @luxBorealis, Which version of Lightroom are you using on the iPad? Have you tried restarting the app?

There are a few things that can prevent you from exporting:

    • No Internet connection: Ensure that your device is connected to the Internet. Switch back to Adobe Lightroom for mobile (iOS) and tap Retry.
    • Not enough storage to perform export: Free up some storage space in iOS Photos. Switch back to Adobe Lightroom for mobile (iOS) and tap Retry.
    • Lightroom does not have permission to save photos in iOS Photos: Provide permissions to Adobe Lightroom for mobile (iOS)  in your device settings. Switch back to Adobe Lightroom for mobile (iOS) and tap Retry.

Could you double-check these if the process doesn't work? Here’s a resource on how to export your photos in Lightroom mobile: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-cc/using/save-and-export-photo-ios.html. If you continue to run into this issue, let us know, and we can continue troubleshooting. I hope this helps! ^CH

Seriously? After @Rikk Flohr_Photography already replied with the news that Adobe has messed up — again — by leaving in a feature we are all used to using, despite it being deprecated? If Adobe is removing functionality, then why leave in greyed out options? That’s just plan sloppy!

It’s like Simone at Adobe maling changes for the sake of making changes, not for the sake of improving anything for the end user. We still don’t have aspect ratio adjustment using numbers for precision, but why implement that when you can remove a feature people use instead? It feels bad being tied down to Adobe products. Especially when they keep doing stuff like this. I’m not happy.

Did someone move this from bug report to questions?

Is this the intended behavior of the app?

Did Adobe straight up just remove useful features from the app? What was the thinking around this change? How does that benefit the users?

I’m on the latest version of Lightroom on my iPad.

When I tap on the cog to change the export settings when using the “share” button in the menu, all the settings are greyed out. I’ll include a screenshot.

To replicate this, I guess you just open the app and tap on the same buttons. The settings aren’t supposed to be unchangeable, right? This was my main way to export photos to other apps on my iPad and now I can’t change the file type or size or anything.

It’s honestly wild that Adobe is like this. This was a useful feature. It was in no one’s way. How is this beneficial to the users? Genuinely curious. Why could it not have stayed the way it was? Again, genuinely curious!

    Hey @luxBorealis

Thank you for sharing the version details and a screen shot of the issue. Can you share the file type of the image you have selected when trying to share. Is the option to export available?

I’m also sharing a post form our Lightroom User Guide about sharing and exporting files: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-cc/using/save-share-photos.html

It happens with every file type I’ve tried: .ARW, .ORF, .NEF, .JPG when using iPad. It’s all fine with the Desktop version.

The option to Export as . . . is available and I can Export using the Share settings, I just can’t change them.
