For best results, your application should be open, in the foreground and plugged into power. Wifi will work better than cellular as well.

Which part of the sync are you referring to, from your phone to the cloud, or the cloud to your computer? I open the Lightroom app on my phone when it is connected to wifi so any new photos will sync up to the cloud. After that sync is complete you can check the status of your cloud by visiting lightroom.adobe.com. This first step of the sync has to be complete before you will see your photos in the Lightroom app.

Why doesn't Lightroom mobile have the option to sync in the background?  I just started using this and now realize it's useless for me ans my workflow at this rate and is feeling like a waste of time. I cannot use my iPad for anything else nor let it sleep, which is likely to burn out the device at the rate I need to be syncing photos with less than perfect internet.  It makes this feel rather elitist that the only ones who can gain maximum results are those who have the luxury of fantastic internet speeds. Just ridiculous that there's isn't an option to sync in the background and infuriating.
