Question

Lightroom Mobile won’t sync AI masks between devices anymore

Hi Adobe team,
I'm using Lightroom Mobile on three devices with the same updated version, and I’ve been experiencing a serious issue: AI-based masks (like Select Subject or Select Sky) are no longer syncing at all between devices.

Previously, when I created a mask on one device, it would sync perfectly to the others. Now, not only do the masks not update — they don’t even show up as existing on the other devices. It’s as if no masks were ever created.

I've tried:
- Logging out and back in on all devices
- Forcing sync by making edits
- Duplicating the image
- Ensuring stable internet on all devices

None of these actions worked.

Please let me know if this is a known issue or if there’s a workaround, because this completely breaks the mobile workflow.

Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same issue as of this week. I apply ai edits in Lightroom on my iPad which are now not syncing to Lightroom classic. I use the remove tool often and occasionally ai masks. I've had to manually go through each image in Lightroom classic and update all the ai settings which has basically doubled the time it takes for me to edit a wedding!

After applying our latest June updates for LR desktop and iOS, are you still able to reproduce this issue?

Hello @esthela44091871u8un

You tagged both Mac and iPadOS for this issue.  Can you clarify your workflow, and share specific steps on how to reproduce this?

For example, which device imports the image, which device edits and applies Select Subject or Select Sky?  And can you confirm which device does not see the edits sync and display?

Also, like Aleke asked, does the Lightroom Web app at https://lightroom.adobe.com show the edits?

Hello, thank you for your response.

I use an iMac to import the RAW images — that’s my main workstation. I do the culling using AfterShot, and then import the selected files into Lightroom Classic. On the iMac, I apply presets and update the AI masks (such as Select Subject and Portrait Enhancements).

The edits, including the AI masks, used to sync almost instantly with my iPad (using Lightroom Mobile). On the iPad, I would fine-tune lighting and straighten the horizon. Those edits also synced with a second Mac, which is used for exporting and Photoshop work.

Lately, the masks still appear on the synced devices (iPad and second Mac), but they show as outdated or incomplete — I have to manually click “Update Mask” on each file. This didn’t happen before, and it’s disrupting the workflow.

This happens to me with EVERY photo I add an AI mask to on Windows when I load it on LR mobile on my Android phone. Every AI mask has to be manually updated.

I am copying my settings (inclusive of my masks) from one photo and selecting several other photos to them paste those edits to.  Unfortunately, the masks are not computing when pasted.  I am having to go in and click on each mask individually to update it on every photo which is very time consuming.  It's actually more efficient for me to just copy and paste the edits and masks one by one because when I do that the masks do compute.  Is anyone else having this issue when batch editing?  It's happening on my iPad and on my iPhone.  Is this a bug?  I'd love to get this fixed so I can truly batch edit my images for the galleries I'm working on.  Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated!  I am on the newest version of Lightroom CC (mobile).

Thanks!

@CandyB13

Do you have Lightroom Desktop as well, to try it on there?

Admittedly, I rarely use Masking in Lightroom but believe Lightroom tries to recreate AI masks, although fixes may be required.

With non AI masks, do these not always require editing after pasting?

Maybe the mask cannot update in unless you have  a photo 'active'?

Hi @esthela44091871u8un! Welcome to the community!

Could you double-check that you're correctly logged in to your Adobe ID on all of your devices?

Please also try logging into Lightroom Web and see if there are any sync errors. You can follow this handy guide to solve any sync errors: Solve Sync Errors.

Thank you!

Alek

Todo se sincroniza casi al momento, excepto las máscaras
